Kate Chopin (1850–1904) was an American author known for her bold exploration of female identity, independence, and desire. Her most famous work, The Awakening, challenged 19th-century norms with its portrayal of a woman’s inner life and personal freedom. Chopin’s short stories and novels were ahead of their time. Her works are now in the public domain.
