José Rizal (1861–1896) was a Filipino nationalist, writer, and revolutionary whose works inspired the movement for Philippine independence from Spanish rule. His novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo exposed colonial injustices and awakened national consciousness. Rizal’s legacy as a national hero endures, and his influential writings are in the public domain.
