Hermann Hesse’s Siddhartha is in the public domain in the United States, and, under the rule of the shorter term, in much of Europe. He died in 1962, the book entered the public domain in the United States in 2018 (95 years from its 1922 publication), and it will enter the public domain in Mexico in 2063, the country with the world’s longest term (life + 100). Let’s celebrate public domain literature!
Hermann Hesse (1877–1962) was a German-Swiss author known for exploring self-discovery, spirituality, and individuality. His most famous works include Siddhartha, Steppenwolf, and The Glass Bead Game, blending Eastern philosophy with Western thought.
