Herman Melville’s works are in the public domain worldwide. He died in 1891, his books entered the public domain in Europe in 1962 (life + 70), and in Mexico in 1991, the country with the world’s longest term (life + 100). Let’s celebrate public domain literature!
Herman Melville (1819 - 1891) was an American novelist, short story writer, and poet of the American Renaissance period. Among his best-known works are Moby Dick; Typee, a romanticized account of his experiences in Polynesia; and Billy Budd, Sailor, a posthumously published novella.
