Henry Fielding (1707–1754) was an English novelist and playwright, best known for his satirical and comedic works. His masterpiece, The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling, is a pioneering novel of adventure, humor, and social commentary. Fielding’s sharp wit and innovative narrative style helped shape the modern novel. He also co-founded London’s first professional police force. His works are in the public domain.
