H. G. Wells’s works are in the public domain worldwide. He died in 1946, his books entered the public domain in Europe in 2017 (life + 70), and in Mexico in 2046, the country with the world’s longest term (life + 100). Let’s celebrate public domain literature!
H. G. Wells (1866–1946) was an English author and pioneer of science fiction, best known for The War of the Worlds, The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, and The Island of Doctor Moreau. His works combined imaginative storytelling with social commentary on science, class, and humanity. A visionary thinker, Wells helped shape modern speculative fiction. Many of his works are now in the public domain.
