Felix Salten’s works are in the public domain in Europe. He died in 1945, so his books entered the public domain there in 2016 (life + 70). In Mexico, the country with the world’s longest term (life + 100), they will enter the public domain in 2045. Let’s celebrate public domain literature!
Felix Salten (1869–1945) was an Austrian author and journalist best known for Bambi, a Life in the Woods, a novel that explores nature and survival through the eyes of a young deer. The book gained worldwide fame after being adapted by Disney. Salten’s work reflects both a love of wildlife and deeper themes of loss and growth. Bambi and many of his writings are now in the public domain.
