Adam Smith’s works entered the public domain in Europe in 1861 (life + 70), and Mexico followed in 1891, the country with the world’s longest term (life + 100). Let’s celebrate public domain literature!
Adam Smith (1723–1790) was a Scottish economist and philosopher best known for The Wealth of Nations, a foundational work in classical economics. He introduced key ideas like the division of labor and the “invisible hand” guiding markets. Smith also explored ethics in The Theory of Moral Sentiments. His influential works are in the public domain.
