A. A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh is in the public domain in the United States. Milne died in 1956, the book entered the public domain there in 2022 (95 years from publication), and it will enter the public domain in Europe in 2027 (life + 70) and in Mexico in 2057, the country with the world’s longest term (life + 100). Let’s celebrate public domain literature!
A. A. Milne (1882–1956) was an English author best known for creating Winnie-the-Pooh. Originally a playwright and humorist, he gained worldwide fame with his children’s books, including Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, which celebrate friendship, adventure, and simple joys. His beloved characters, inspired by his son’s toys, remain cultural icons. Many of his works are now in the public domain.
